Instructions for Sending Parcels to Kenya
Inquire at your nearest post office for the most recent mailing instructions, forms to be used, cost of mailing, etc. Please contact the missionaries first before sending parcels to be sure they want to receive them.
1. Personal Parcels
Parcels of food or personal items can be received. However, a list of items should go inside the box and a letter sent ahead detailing this. The required label on the outside of the box should only give very general contents, and also say "unsolicited gifts, not for resale, no commercial value"
2. Used Clothing
Do not send used clothing unless requested. If the missionary requests clothing, remove any price labels and original wrappings. Evn if clothing arrives with other items, it greatly increases the duty on the parcel.
3. Printed Matter
Mark: "Church Educational Materials"; "Missionary Use -- No Commercial Value"
Weight: Limit is 22 lbs. It is best to use small padded envelopes. Mark all parcels "Missionary Use."

Package: Mailbags may be used to send printed matter.

NOTE, FOR ALL PARCELS: Remove any price label and original wrappings. VCR tapes or small parcels (one or two items) you can use a green US Customs label, but do not declare a value.

Larger parcels with several items enclosed, use the white US Customs sticker to provide a generic description of the contents rather than itemizing them. It is best not to declare any value. Any value given will be added to custom charges upon arrival.

Airmail takes 10 to 30 days; surface mail takes from 3 to 12 months.
DUTY: Customs duty is paid on all parcels (large or small) but there seems to be no set standard charge. Duty can range form $1 to $50 per parcel.
Please send $2 duty money per parcel to the General Treasurer in Kansas City. Mark it "Duty Fund." The missionary will be reimbursed for duty charges from this fund.
Items of interest and prayer requests to be shared with LINKs district:
- Pray for involvement of local church congregations in the building process - labor or building supplies
- Land purchases are a great priority - pray for the funds needed to complete these purchases ad the processing of all legal documents.
- Recruitment of W&W teams, safety in their travel and at work sites.
